EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATIONS

I am the Senate sponsor of this bill; it was sponsored in the House by Representative Massey.  The bill provides for state oversight of companies that manage charter schools.  Currently there are at least 19 of these management origanizations running schools in the state, and the number is growing.  A significant number of these companies are for-profit and are from out of state.  The bill ensures transparency and accountability to ensure that these education providers live up to their commitment to deliver quality education for Colorado children.

The bill passed the Senate, but it was killed in the House State Affairs Committee on a party-line vote by the majority Republicans.
