CLARIFICATION OF JUDICIAL FEES

Bill ID:
SB 38
Branch:
Senate
Year:
2009

This is one of the four bills for which I am the prime sponsor. I was asked to carry the bill by the Judicial Department, since I sit on the Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill is a technical “clean-up” to correct a couple of errors made in a bill passed last year that increased some judicial fees in order to pay for the construction of a state Judicial Center. This new center will house all the state judicial courts and offices, currently scattered in numerous buildings. The Judicial Center will take over the city block where the Colorado History Museum sits, so some of the funding will go towards rebuilding the museum. The new site for the museum will be one block south of the existing site, at 12th and Broadway in Denver.

The bill has no fiscal impact and passed the Senate quickly. It is expected to pass the House without a problem.
