CONSUMER PROTECTION AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE
Bill ID:
HB 1074
Branch:
House
Year:
2010 I am the Senate sponsor of this House bill by Rep. Soper’s bill to modify how auto insurance companies deal with their clients by increasing the accident threshold time, requiring the use of new parts for vehicles under warranty, and creating regional pricing for auto repairs paid for by insurance.
The bill was initiated by the Department of Regulatory Agencies, Division of Insurance, with the belief that it would provide additional consumer protection. The Insurance Commissioner believed that it would help those who might be preyed upon in the marketplace and that these modifications would help consumers and will keep the playing field level for everyone.
The bill was killed in the House Business Affairs Committee on a vote of 8:3.
